Received response from Chief Halford on the
3/26/08 e-mail concerning FF III. He is currently waiting to find out exactly
what the Fire Department budget will be (cuts, additions, etc. - if any) before
he can make a final decision on the number of positions that will be available.

positions to be made available

Awaiting response from e-mail sent to Chief Halford on 3/4/08.
2/6/08:
Check your Metro e-mail and memo concerning the Firefighter III rankings.
1/31/08:
The Firefighter III Committee has met and reviewed the 34 applications
submitted, of which 33 were approved. We are currently awaiting Chief Halford's
decision on how many of the 80 allotted positions can be funded.
Currently, there are approximately 52 positions filled.

POINTS

- Journeyman Firefighter (required): 5 points
- E.M.T. (required 1993 and later): 5 points
- Certificate in Fire Science or Associates degree in Fire Science: 5 points
- Classes that in someway can be related to our
jobs and/or help us to better perform our duties will be awarded points as
follows:
* 1/2 day: 1 point
* 1 1/2 days: 2 points
* 2 1/2 days: 3 points
- Classes taught by a Fire Instructor I (certified by the Tennessee Commission
on Firefighting) and/or Paramedic Instructor Coordinator
(certified by the Tennessee Department of Public Health) equivalent or
higher. This would include all classes taught at the Nashville Fire
Department Training Academy (excluding mandatory
in-service classes), State Fire Academy, National Fire Academy etc. These
classes
must be at least one day in length. (at least one is required)
* 0ne class: 3 points
* All classes with a certificate that are not recurring but meet the
criteria above will be excluded from the 2 year qualification rule.
- Classes taught by an accredited school or
college that pertains to Fire Department studies or is counted toward a degree
in Fire Science.
You must have 3 to qualify.
* 3 classes: 3 points
* Cannot be used in conjunction with the 5 points given for the Fire
Science Certificate or degree.
- Degrees by a accredited school or college:
2 year degree: 1 point
4 year degree: 3 points
* Cannot be used in conjunction with the 5 points given for the Fire
Science Certificate or Degree
- 1 point for every 2 years of service beyond 12
- Community Service points:
* 1 point per service
* 5 points max
